Kyiv today announced “full control” of Lyman, a crucial logistical hub for Russian forces stationed in the south-east of the country. In a video posted to Telegram, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that this result was achieved at 12.30 p.m. (local time) today.

US Secretary of Defense Llyod Austin said Ukrainian forces were making advances in the Kherson region after capturing the town of Lyman. Austin said in an interview with CNN that he recorded “a change in the dynamics of the battlefield.” Ukrainian soldiers “fought very well in the Kharkiv region and tried to seize the opportunities. The fighting in the Kherson region is a little slower, but it is making progress,” he added.

Zelenskyy returned in his evening video to talk about NATO. “Nine NATO countries have supported Ukraine’s aspirations to become a full member of the Alliance. We’re moving in that direction. I am sure that we will realize our project,” the president said, according to Ukrinform.
