Corruption scandal in Kyiv, investigations
As a result of the investigation, one officer was arrested and others were dismissed from their posts. The joint investigation by the State Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office found that a group of officials led by the head of the ammunition production department accepted higher payments than agreed for a contract for artillery shells. According to a statement on the ministry's website, the new military procurement agency signed a revised contract that included significantly lower prices. However, payment for the defense equipment was made in accordance with agreements previously reached by the agents involved in the investigation and resulted in an overpayment of 1.5 billion hryvnias (US$40 million).

The effects
All officers involved would be subjected to a lie detector test, the Defense Ministry said on its website. Umerov became defense minister in early September after his predecessor, Oleksii Reznikov, was removed amid allegations of corruption in military procurement by subordinates he controlled.
