Stoltenberg claims ‘it would be dangerous to underestimate Russia’ and says Moscow ‘hasn’t changed its ambitions’
NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenbergconfirmed this Thursday that in the context of the war in Ukraine “it would be dangerous to underestimate Russia” and said so “Nothing indicates that Moscow has changed its ambitions” since the invasion began in February 2022.
That’s what Stoltenberg said at a conference in the Norwegian capital Oslo NATO “made significant efforts at the political and diplomatic levels to avoid war” and regretted that Russian President Vladimir Putin “decided to go on the offensive”.
“When he did we were prepared” he explained before stressing that the block “accurate and concrete intelligence information about the strengthening of Russian troops on the border and about their specific plans,” reports the Norwegian newspaper VG.
So he was defending that at the time “Guns are the way to peace” and has argued that “if you want a peaceful negotiated settlement, you must support Ukraine”. “If Putin wins in Ukraine, it will be a tragedy for Ukrainians. but it would also be dangerous for us“, has explained.
