Ukraine: Russian missile attack kills at least four people in Lviv

Russian missile hits building in Lviv

(Portal) – At least four people were killed in a Russian missile attack on a residential building in Lviv, western Ukraine, on Wednesday night. According to the authorities, rescuers were looking for victims or survivors in the rubble.

32 people were injured, including a child, and rescue operations are continuing, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said in a statement.

According to the rescue workers, they managed to rescue seven people from the rubble and evacuate 64 others.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia attacked Lviv with ten Kalibr missiles launched from the Black Sea, seven of which were shot down.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a one-minute video online showing buildings with their roofs and upper floors destroyed and rescuers searching for survivors in the rubble.

“Unfortunately, there are injured and dead. My condolences go to the families,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the news app Telegram.

“There will certainly be a reaction against the enemy. One that will be felt,” he added.

Lviv Mayor Andri Sadovy reported that several explosions could be heard in the city and it was the largest attack in the region in more than 16 months.

Far from the front lines, Lviv is about 70 km from the border with Poland, a member of NATO. The city had a population of 700,000 before the Russian invasion and its population has since grown as Ukrainians fled fighting in other parts of the country.
