Ukraine says it has killed an elite group of Chechen fighters today who planned to assassinate President Vladimir Green.
Alexei Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said in a televised address today that the group “which came to assassinate our president has been liquidated.”
Earlier today, Ramzan Kadyrov – the leader of the force of Chechnya – said that Chechens were killed in Moscow invasion of Ukraine. The squad was sent to Ukraine by Kadyrov, a staunch ally of the Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Since the Russian invasion began on February 24, there have been fears that President Vladimir Zelensky (pictured: may be killed by Russian forces. In a statement, he even said he was the number one target for the Kremlin’s assassins.
“We are already familiar with the special operation that was to be carried out by Kadyrov’s unit,” Danilov told Ukraine 24, The Mirror. reported.
“We have received information from representatives of the Federal Security Service of Russia who do not want to take part in this bloody war.
“Kadyrov’s forces, which came to assassinate our president, have been eliminated.”
Danilov said the unit had been divided into two groups and his movement was being closely monitored.
He said one of the two groups came under fire from Ukrainian forces in Hostomel, the northwestern suburb of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The other unit was “in our field of vision,” he said.
“They were divided into two groups, we followed them,” Danilov said on television. “One group was served near Hostomel, the other is in our field of vision.”
Danilov continued: “We will not give our president or our country to anyone. This is our land, get out of here.

On February 25, the day after the war broke out, he was filmed standing in the dark near the presidency building with his advisers, saying “we are all here” in an attempt to counter the misinformation that he had resigned.
“Our army is here. The citizens of society are here. “We are all here defending our independence, our country, and that will remain the case,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kadyrov, a former insurgent who has become an ally of the Kremlin, backed President Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine by sending his famous fighters into the country. He had earlier confirmed that some of his fighters had been killed.
“Unfortunately, there are already losses among the locals of the Chechen Republic. Two were killed and six others were injured to varying degrees, “Kadyrov told Telegram.
Kadyrov, who is in charge of the Russian republic of Chechnya, which rules de facto according to its own rules, has published videos of Chechen fighters in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, he published one of the Chechen fighters with Russian tanks moving past them.
Russia did not say how many of its forces were killed in the invasion, but also acknowledged losses last week.
Kadyrov said the slain Chechen fighters “chose to become heroes”.
“Yes, they kill in war, and that was their choice of profession,” he said.
He claims that “they were ordered to minimize casualties among the civilian population of Ukraine.”
Russia denies attacking civilian areas, but residential areas have been shelled.
Ukraine says more than 350 civilians have been killed since Putin launched the attack last Thursday.
Moscow has invaded from several directions, including Belarus, Moscow-annexed Crimea, and separatist-controlled territory in eastern Ukraine.
It was reported on 25 February that a detachment of “hunters” of Chechen special forces had been sent to Ukraine to detain or kill a group of specific Ukrainian officers.
