Ukraine says it shot down two missiles and 20 drones in a new Russian attack

Ukraine said on Sunday (17) that it repelled two Russian missiles and 20 drone attacks overnight, while Moscow reported shooting down 33 drones fired by Ukraine.

“The Russian occupation forces attacked with the IskanderK cruise missile, the Kh59 guided missile (…) and 20 Shahed attack drones,” the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement.

The same statement said that Ukrainian forces shot down the drones and Kh19 missiles, while “the IskanderK cruise missiles did not reach their target,” he added.

The rockets were fired from Crimea and the occupied Kherson region, the statement said, without specifying whether they caused casualties or damage.

Russia said it foiled 33 drone strikes in three regions bordering Ukraine.

In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems “destroyed and intercepted 33 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over the Lipetsk, Rostov and Volgograd regions.”

Drone attacks occur almost daily in the border regions with Russia, but mass offensives are rare. Moscow and its surroundings were also the target of Ukrainian drone attacks.

Russia bombs Ukrainian cities almost every day. Last week they launched a massive drone strike against southern Ukraine and fired ballistic missiles at Kiev. Around 50 people were injured by the rubble.
