(ANSA) ROME, MARCH 28 Germany is considering buying a missile defense system to protect itself from a possible Russian attack, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said, quoted by the BBC.
“This is certainly one of the topics we are discussing, and for good reason,” Scholz replied to the public broadcaster Ard when asked whether Germany could buy a facility like the Israeli Iron Dome. However, he did not specify which typology Berlin is considering.
When asked if Germany wanted to buy a longerrange defense system than its current Patriot batteries, Scholz replied, “We have to be aware that we have a neighbor who is willing to use force to impose his interests.”
Germany the BBC recalls overhauled its defense policy after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, announced tens of billions of dollars more for the army and promised to meet NATO’s military spending target of 2% of GDP. (HAND).
