Stéphane Dujarric was in Kyiv with Antonio Guterres on Thursday night when Moscow hit the Ukrainian capital. A journalist was killed.
The day after Thursday night’s Kyiv bombings, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, guest on BFMTV, described the attacks as “regrettable” but “not very surprising”. The strike caused the death of a Ukrainian journalist, Vira Ghyrytch, who worked at Radio Liberty.
“We were in the Prime Minister’s office of Ukraine last night when we heard about these airstrikes. We could see some smoke from the window of this building, but it was a few kilometers from the hotel, the general secretary wasn’t concerned, but of course our thoughts are first of all with the people of Kyiv, the Ukrainian people, who are far too regularly attacking this Art are exposed,” said Stéphane Dujarric this Friday on our antenna.
“We are trying to double and increase aid”
For the UN spokesman, “the fact that there has been an attack on the capital of a country at war is regrettable, it is to be condemned, but it is not that surprising”.
According to Stéphane Dujarric, “the purpose of the Secretary-General’s visit was more of a humanitarian nature”.
“We are trying to double and increase the aid we are giving to the millions of Ukrainians who need it, and we are also doing what we can to set up corridors for civilians to exit these cities, especially in the East and Southeast very affected,” he explained.
