April 23 – Ukraine has asked the International Atomic Energy Agency for “a comprehensive list of equipment” it needs to operate nuclear power plants during the war with Russia, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi said on Saturday.

These include radiation gauges, protective materials, computer support, power systems and diesel generators, he said in a statement.

“We will coordinate the implementation of the assistance that the IAEA and its member states will provide, including the delivery of the necessary equipment directly to Ukraine’s nuclear sites,” he said.

“The need is great and I am very grateful for the significant support that our Member States have already pledged.”

Ukraine has 15 operational reactors at four power plants, seven of which are currently connected to the grid, including two at the Zaporizhia facility, which is currently controlled by Russia.

Grossi said the IAEA is still not receiving remote data transmissions from its surveillance systems installed at the decommissioned Chernobyl facility.

Next week Rossi is scheduled to visit the power plant that Russian forces occupied shortly after invading Ukraine but abandoned on March 31. He said he will be handing over radiation monitoring equipment, as well as personal protective equipment.
