Ukraine wants to sue Poland, Hungary and Slovakia over import bans on Ukrainian grain. The news was announced by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka in an interview with Politico newspaper.
At issue is the fact that in April the European Union (EU) authorized five member states Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia to ban the marketing of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds on their territory , provided this does not hinder the transit of grain to other countries.
The aim would be to protect farmers in these countries who blame these imports for the fall in prices in their local markets. The bans expired last Friday, but Poland, Slovakia and Hungary announced their own restrictions.
“It is important to prove that these actions are legally wrong. And that’s why we will start a court case tomorrow,” Kachka told Politico, adding that Ukraine could also impose restrictions on Poland.
“We would be forced to take revenge on the additional products and ban the import of fruit and vegetables from Poland,” he emphasized.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has become entirely dependent on EU routes for its grain exports after Russia unilaterally abandoned the export agreement in July that had allowed Kiev to safely ship its agricultural products to African countries and from Asia via the Black Sea .
According to Vladimir Putin, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia began with the aim of “denazifying” and demilitarizing Ukraine for Russia’s security. The operation was condemned by the majority of the international community.
The United Nations confirmed that nearly ten thousand civilians died in the war and more than 17,000 were injured. They stressed that the actual numbers will be much higher and can only be known if there is access to surrounded areas or areas where heavy fighting is taking place.
