Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) prevented Ukrainian intelligence agencies from committing the murder of RT International news chain director Margarita Simonian, the agency reported on Saturday.

“The FSB, together with the investigative committee and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, foiled the assassination planned by the Ukrainian special services of the editor-in-chief of the RT TV channel and the international news agency Russia Today, Margarita Simonian.
According to the available data, the assassination of Ksenia Sobchak was also planned,” the press service said in a statement.

The Russian investigative committee plans to initiate proceedings against those arrested “with extremist and terrorist undertones”.
The foiled plan was prepared by members of the neo-Nazi group Paragraph-88 on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine.
On July 14, the FSB arrested members of the neo-Nazi Paragraph 88 group in Moscow and the Ryazan region who were pursuing their goals in their places of work and residence, the press office reported.
“During the investigation, they confirmed their assassination plan on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine in exchange for a reward of 1.5 million rubles for each assassination,” the statement said.
During the preliminary investigation, the FSB agents seized a Kalashnikov assault rifle, 90 cartridges for it, knives, knuckles, nightsticks, handcuffs, stripes with Nazi insignia, Nazi literature, as well as media and computers with information confirming his criminal intent, the press office said of the FSB.
“The investigative committee plans to launch criminal proceedings against the suspects detained on charges of extremism and terrorism,” he said.
