Ukrainian expert condemns Russian attacks

Ukrainian academic Volodymyr Dubovyk on Wednesday denounced the situation in his country following Russia’s invasion, detailing what he described as the “horror” of the war that Russian leader Vladimir Putin started on February 24.

In a video conference organized by the US embassy in Guatemala, Dubovyk, director of the Center for International Studies at Mechnikov National University in Odessa, said the horrors of the war started by Putin in Ukraine included multiple murders in several Ukrainian cities and youths were executed and women were even raped.

“They murdered teenagers, they raped women, some under the age of 10. Some were raped, killed, and then their bodies burned. This happened not only once in Bucha. It wasn’t an isolated event, it’s a war tactic. The more people Russia invades and the more these peoples are liberated, the more we discover that all this happened,” the professor said, visibly shocked.

The dean’s information comes amid lurid reports of the killing of civilians in Bucha, a Kyiv suburb. In this context, Dubovyk comments that everything happens because of a person “who is crazy”, in relation to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“As an academic, it is my duty to speak out about the crisis in my country. We suffer in many ways, but we don’t feel guilty. We didn’t do anything to deserve it,” the dean commented during the meeting, which brought together journalists from several countries, including Nicaragua and Colombia.

Dubovyk He also points out that the Ukrainian population is under “serious stress” internally, but also angry about Putin’s offensive. “We don’t think we did anything to cause this and yet they came, they launched their rockets, their planes, their bombings and attacked my country,” denounced the academic.

The director of the Center for International Studies at Mechnikov National University said the Russians “probably underestimated the capabilities of our troops” and are now shocked by what is happening.

“It is obvious that they wanted a quick war, they wanted to have a strong and quick impact in the beginning. They thought they would quickly take over the government, attack Kyiv, do some occupations and get out quickly, but that didn’t happen. They didn’t manage to reach Kyiv.”

Amid resistance from the Ukrainian people, the educator called on the rest of the country to stop buying fuels like gas and oil from Russia, pointing out that those who do are “indirectly funding this war because the invasion has started , Russia made a lot of profit from fuel sales.

When asked about the support of some countries such as Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela, the expert pointed out that this is done for economic reasons and to gain benefits.
