According to one report, at least 53 historical sites were damaged in Ukraine.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has called for the implementation of additional safeguards to protect these priceless sites amid the ongoing war with Russia.
In total, the UNESCO report lists 29 religious sites, 16 historic buildings, four museums and four monuments that were damaged in whole or in part.
“We are very concerned about the situation at the humanitarian and (cultural) heritage level. The heritage of mankind is in danger (in Ukraine),” Ernesto Ottone, UNESCO Deputy Director-General for Culture, said during a news conference, Reuters reported.

Ukraine claims Russian forces abandoned Chernobyl and surrendered control
Ukrainian state-owned energy company Energoatom announced on Friday that Russian forces have returned control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Energoatom claimed the withdrawal came after soldiers received “significant doses of radiation” while digging trenches in the forest in the exclusion zone around the closed facility.

The US is sending $300 million worth of military equipment to Ukraine
The US will provide an additional $300 million in military equipment to Ukraine while its war with Russia continues, the Defense Department announced.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby shared the additional assistance in a statement Friday night, saying the new package “represents the start of a contracting process to deliver new capabilities” to Ukraine.
The US has given Ukraine more than $1.6 billion since the war began.
