The UN General Assembly approved the resolution on Thursday “Fight against the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to exacerbating contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”submitted by Russia.
When voting The resolution was supported by 120 countries, while 50 voted against (including the United States and Ukraine) and 10 abstained.
Of the countries that voted against, most are European.
In addition to the United States and Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Latvia, Poland and Portugal, among others, opposed it.
The delegations from Afghanistan, Ecuador, Myanmar, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, South Korea, Switzerland and Turkey abstained.
The resolution is presented to the Assembly each year. On that occasion, the document was carried by Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Cambodia, North Korea, Central African Republic, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Laos, Mali, Nicaragua, Pakistan, South Africa, Sudan, Syria and Vietnam.
