UNITED NATIONS, 12 September (RHC) In the light of today’s South-South Cooperation Day celebrations, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged that solidarity-based solutions be sought to deal with the current crises.
“South-South and triangular cooperation are critical for developing countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change, address the global health crisis, including the recovery from Covid-19, and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ),” said the head of the United Nations Organization (UN).
He urged richer countries to work constructively with developing countries “particularly to reduce growing inequalities between and within nations.”
He also encouraged “all nations and communities to redouble their cooperation and build bridges to achieve a just and sustainable future for all”.
South-South and triangular cooperation must be at the heart of our preparations for strong recovery and building more resilient economies and societies, said the secretary-general.
Cooperation between Southern Territories is the unity between people and countries of the developing world, known as the Global South, contributing to national well-being, collective self-sufficiency and the achievement of global goals, the communication of the international organization has been abundant.
He pointed out that the history of the UN in relation to South-South cooperation dates back to 1949, when the first technical assistance program through the Economic and Social Council and the establishment of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 1965 were founded.
The high-level commemoration of United Nations South-South Cooperation Day in 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand, celebrates and reflects advocacy and commitment to contribute to urgent development solutions, he noted. (Source:PL)
