According to the New York Post, a passenger under the influence of methamphetamine tried to open the emergency door of the plane she was on as the plane flew over the Pacific Ocean on Thursday.
The 26-year-old woman was arrested by police at Incheon International Airport after she tried to open the door of a Korean Air flight to Incheon, a South Korean city bordering Seoul, Yonhap News Agency reported.
According to American media, the plane was nearing the end of its 15-hour journey from New York, having departed at 2 a.m. the day before.
Witnesses told police that about 10 hours after the robbery began, she showed signs of fear and tried to open the door several times before she was finally restrained by officers on board.
She later tested positive for methamphetamine, airport officials told Korean daily JoongAng.
Police report that the woman entered the country after spending more than six months in New York and had no history of mental illness.
This is the third case of a passenger attempting to open emergency doors on Korean flights this year, including a 19-year-old under the influence of drugs who was sentenced to three years in prison.
