At the 45th extended session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee42 new locations were added UNESCO World Heritage Listand the expansion of 5 World Heritage sites was approved.
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee, made up of representatives from 21 countries elected by the United Nations General Assembly, met in the Saudi capital Riyadh to review sites to be added to the list World Heritage List and to check the state of preservation of the assets in the List of World Heritage in Danger.
After fifteen days of work, the committee registered 42 new sites, including 33 cultural sites and 9 natural sites.
Of the registered locations, 15 are in Europe, 12 in Asia, 6 in Africa, 6 in North and South America and 3 in the Middle East.
This figure represents the largest extension in a single session since 1982.
The ““Uruq Bani Ma’arid Reserve” It became Saudi Arabia’s seventh World Heritage Site and its first natural heritage site.
