UNESCO and Uruguay hold a conference on the subject "digital siege" on journalism

Paris, 28 April (EFE).- Between 2 and 5 May, coinciding with World Press Freedom Day (3 May), UNESCO and Uruguay are holding a conference on the impact of the digital age on freedom of expression, security of journalists, privacy and access to information.

The event, titled “Journalism under digital siege,” will be held in Punta del Este and will be chaired by Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou and Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, the multilateral organization announced in a statement.

The opening of the conference, which will include training workshops, will see the awarding ceremony of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2022, which went to the Belarusian Union of Journalists.

Notable among the names who will be present are Shoshana Zuboff, author of The Age of Surveillance Capitalism; Will Carthart, director of WhatsApp, or Frances Haugen, activist for the transparency of social media platforms and former Meta employee.

Also taking part will be Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Russian journalist Dmitri Muratov and former Colombian President José Manuel Santos. Alongside them, renowned investigative journalists from Latin America confirmed their presence, including Mexican Carmen Aristegui and Colombians Jineth Bedoya and Claudia Duque. EFE
