An 83-year-old woman was transported by ambulance to the home of a complete stranger after her stay at Boston Hospital in the United Kingdom on Tuesday. A small incident that caused great concern for his family.
Joyce Wright, an 83-year-old woman, was admitted to Boston Hospital, United Kingdom, after a serious fall. At the end of that hospital stay and still sleeping, she was taken by ambulance to a complete stranger’s house this Tuesday, the BBC revealed.
The paramedics allegedly used a security key to enter the house and place the octogenarian in a bed. It wasn’t until around 8 a.m. the next day that hospital staff noticed the error, said the patient’s son, Andy Wright.
“It was dark and my mother was on painkillers and morphine, things were a bit confusing for her,” he continued.
A “very shocking” mistake
According to her report, hospital staff admitted to accidentally taking Joyce Wright to the apartment of another patient, her roommate. “It really was someone else’s bed, it wasn’t a retirement home at all,” emphasized Andy Wright.
The latter also highlighted the “shocking” nature of this mistake, explaining that the consequences could have been much worse. Joyce Wright is now back in hospital receiving treatment.
For Andy Wright, the root cause of this error is the constant pressure placed on hospital staff and calls for a full investigation.
Michelle Harris, hospital director, and Joy Weldin, the facility’s transportation director, expressed their “deepest apologies” following the error.
Lincolnshire Hospital Ambulance Service has launched an investigation into the incident.
