Scenes of great violence lasting just a few seconds, car thefts are on the rise in the United States. The result: increasingly stressed drivers. But what are the reasons for these attacks?

It's a lightning raid, automatic pistol in hand. While a first thief takes the owner of the vehicle and an accomplice gets the keys back, the attack only lasted eleven seconds. In recent months, these types of attacks have increased significantly in the United States. In California, a father's car was stolen. The thief, who was stopped a few miles away, didn't even notice that there was a little boy in the back seat.

Washington, car theft capital

A month ago, the owner of a restaurant in a fashionable suburb of Washington was the victim of an attack. A man rushes, gun in hand, to get the keys to his sports car. “They hit me over the head with my butt,” he said. He immediately gave them the keys to his vehicle. In just a few months, Washington has become the auto theft capital, with twice as many thefts as last year and six times as many as in 2019.
