“I’m innocent, I did nothing wrong. In a video posted to Twitter Thursday night, Donald Trump took the lead in prosecuting the case over the secret documents found at his Florida residence, while also denouncing “Biden’s corrupt government” and “persecution policies.” But those charges won’t stop the ex-president from running for the White House in 2024.
The elected Republicans immediately joined forces around him. “I, like all Americans who believe in the rule of law, stand with President Trump,” said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. “It is unacceptable for a president to impeach the front runner who opposes him. “Joe Biden kept secret documents for decades,” he laments.
Targeting Joe Biden
“It’s a sad day for America,” added Jim Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee. The latter’s Twitter account, although an official organ, published even more vicious messages, such as the Donald Trump-loving slogan “witch hunt” in all caps, or a brief “Joe Biden’s garage,” alluding to official documents also found on the Twitter account found were current president and in his previous office.
The indictment against Donald Trump is a “blot on our nation” and shows that “the FBI and the Justice Department are so corrupt they don’t even hide it anymore,” said Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. “President Donald Trump will be back in the White House and Joe Biden will be Hunter’s cellmate,” vowed his son under investigation, Matt Gaetz, one of the billionaire Republican’s closest supporters.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, though Donald Trump’s rival for the Republican nomination, also criticized the Justice Department, tweeting that if elected he would “remove political bias.” Without being too categorical, billionaire Elon Musk, who is increasingly present in the political arena, opined that there “apparently seems to be more interested in prosecuting Trump than other politicians.”
