Police in Des Moines, Iowa, reported that they arrested several people after a shooting at the Starts Right Here facility, a program for troubled youth.

Two people were killed and a third seriously injured at a youth center in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, police said. After an 911 call, law enforcement attending Starts Right Here, a program to help distressed youth, found three people with gunshot wounds, two of them “very serious.” “These two people, two students, are dead (…). The third person employed by the facility is in serious condition,” Paul Parizek, a Des Moines police spokesman, told reporters.

Three suspects arrested

The police could not give the exact age of the two victims. “I don’t know if it’s adults or (…) underage teenagers,” said Paul Parizek. Based on testimonies, police stopped a vehicle and arrested “three potential suspects”. The investigation is ongoing, she said in a statement. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said she was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting.

These two deaths come after the deaths of 11 people Saturday night in California, who were shot dead by a 70-year-old man of Asian descent during Chinese New Year celebrations.
