Russo opened up about his fake illness on TikTok, showing off medical equipment and pretending to be undergoing chemotherapy in a hospital when he was actually at his apartment. After some leads, police checked the medical records of three area hospitals, but the woman did not show up because she had cancer.
The police then searched the 19-year-old’s apartment and found a kind of mock hospital: an IV stand with a feeding pump filled with cotton balls and medical supplies on behalf of a relative. Russo now faces 10 years in prison.
