At the last meeting of the FIFA Council, the participation of 32 teams for the 2025 Club World Cup was confirmed. The distribution was as follows: 12 teams from UEFA (Europe), six from Conmebol (South America), four from Concacaf (North America), four from CAF (Africa), four from AFC (Asia), one from OFC (Oceania) and a host country representative who will be in the United States.

What needs to happen for Universitario or Alianza Lima to qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup?
For this new format, Conmebol will allocate its six places as follows: the four champions of the Copa Libertadores 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024; while the other two remaining tickets will be awarded based on classification within Conmebol.
For Alianza Lima, Universitario, Sporting Cristal or Melgar to reach one of the remaining places, they must become champions of the 2024 Copa Libertadores. Taking this situation into account, the Compadres are the ones who start with a slight lead over the Rimenses and Arequipeños, since they will not compete in the previous phase, the direct elimination.
If they fail to do so, they will have to finish in the top two places in the Conmebol rankings, although this possibility is a long way off as first place is occupied by Boca Juniors with 70 points; while the light blue ones are best positioned, albeit with 23 units.
