This settlement recommendation will be presented to members of the University of Laval Professors Union (SPUL) at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
Its president, Louis-Philippe Lampron, said he was confident of the result. For its part, the management of the Université Laval remained cautious but optimistic.
The employers’ party will also submit the settlement proposal to their authorities by Wednesday at the latest.
“In the event that the two authorities accept the proposal, the earliest we can plan for a return to classes is Thursday morning. More details on this will follow,” the communications department replied via email.
The arbitrator believes that this recommendation can settle the matter. The board of the Université Laval must decide.
This strike lasts more than four weeks and affects about 23,000 students or about 40% of the courses offered.
Laval University has already opened the door to extending the session beyond April 30.
