Unlimited general strike: “Colossal work” at the negotiating table, assures LeBel

Sonia LeBel sought to reassure parents in Quebec on Thursday, a few days before major pressure tactics that will affect thousands of students on the public network. According to him, talks are currently underway with the unions with the aim of reaching an agreement.

“We are very aware of the impact that an indefinite general strike could have,” the minister responsible for government administration said in a press release.

“I would like to reassure parents that an enormous amount of work is currently being done at the negotiating tables.”

The man who also oversees the role of Treasury president reiterated that the latest offer presented to unions was reasonable amid an impasse with the Common Front.

“Our fourth offer, which includes a total of $8 billion in public money, is serious and deserves a counteroffer from the unions,” she warns.

“We must have the courage to make the necessary changes to provide better services to Quebecers.”

For a “healthy climate” in schools

LeBel hopes that faculty work in a healthy “climate” and that students can benefit from the services “they deserve.” To this end, she calls on trade union groups to “take a concrete step towards us”.

“They will be the first to be affected by the strike locally.”

Remember that starting Tuesday, public schools will be closed for three days and 40% indefinitely as 65,000 teachers stage an indefinite general strike, a first in Quebec in 40 years.

But on November 23, teachers affiliated with the Autonomous Education Federation will launch an indefinite general strike because no agreement has been reached with the Legault government by then.
