GAZA – Hamas says it is an “unprecedented” attack since the start of the war. This Friday, October 27, the Israeli army is carrying out heavy bombings in the north of the Gaza Strip, especially in Gaza City, according to images obtained by AFP and the Palestinian Islamist movement.
The Israeli attacks began at 7 p.m. local time and continued for more than an hour later. The bombings “by air, sea and land” were “the most violent since the beginning of the war” on October 7, said the press service of the Hamas government ruling in Gaza and accused Israel of “preparing massacres.”
These are the “largest Israeli attacks” against the Gaza Strip, said the Israeli public television station Kan. The IDF, for its part, claimed to have intensified its attacks “in a very significant way.”
IDF will “expand its ground operations”
“We will continue to strike in Gaza City and its surrounding areas,” army spokesman Daniel Hagari added in a televised statement. He added that the IDF would “expand its ground operations this evening.” This is a continuation of “the series of strikes of the last few days,” he said.
In response, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas announced that it had fired “barrels of rockets” into Israel. “Rocket volleys towards the occupied territories (Israel, editor’s note) in response to the massacres of Palestinian civilians,” the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said on the Telegram news service.
At the same time, according to the Hamas government, communications and the Internet in the Gaza Strip were disrupted. The latter called on the world to “act immediately” to stop the Israeli bombings.
The UN, which is calling for a ceasefire, fears that “without fundamental change, the people of Gaza will suffer an unprecedented avalanche of human suffering.” Around 2.4 million people live crammed into this small, besieged area, deprived of everything.
