The Duke of Sussex, 38, has candidly admitted that he used to watch videos of his late mother and “collect memories of her” to cry over her death.

He made the emotional admission during an explosive interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes, in which he revealed his “guilt” at not being able to shed a tear over Diana’s tragic death in 1997.

“There was this weight on my chest that I felt for so many years that I could never cry,” he told host Anderson Cooper.

“So I was constantly trying to find a way to cry, but … by even sitting on my sofa and going through as many memories of my mother as I could muster. And sometimes I watched videos online.’

However, Harry says that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shed a tear – something that filled him with “guilt” for years.

The Duke grappled with that guilt from the moment he and his brother William greeted members of the public who had turned out to pay their respects to Diana on the day of her funeral, with Harry explaining that he was stunned by how many people sobbed over the death of his mother.

“I remember the guilt I felt,” he said of the moment, adding, “The fact that the people we met showed more emotion than they did.” [William and I] showed perhaps more emotion than we actually felt.

“There were a lot of tears. I’m talking about how wet people’s hands were. And I couldn’t understand it at first.

“Her hands were wet from wiping her own tears. I remember one of the weirdest parts of it was taking flowers from people and then putting those flowers with the others. As if I were some kind of middleman for their grief. And that really struck me.”

Harry struggled with his grief for years – and says it wasn’t until he began undergoing therapy and experimenting with psychedelic drugs that he really came to terms with his mother’s death.

The Duke of Sussex told Cooper that psychedelics like ayahuasca and magic mushrooms were his “medicine” after his mother’s major “loss” in 1997, and said that using psychedelics as he got older ultimately “eliminated the idea.” that he had to be sad to prove that he “missed” his mother.

“I would never recommend people to do this in their spare time,” he said during the hour-long in-depth interview.

“But if you do it with the right people, if you’re going through a lot of loss or grief or trauma, then those things have a way of working like medicine.

“For me they removed the windshield, the windshield, the misery of loss. They dispelled this idea I had in my head that… I had to cry to prove to my mom that I missed her. Actually, she just wanted me to be happy.”

Harry explained while sitting down that he didn’t think he cried over Diana’s death because he “refused to accept that she was gone.”

The 60 Minutes interview aired just over an hour after another television session between Harry and British journalist Tom Bradby premiered in the UK.

In that interview, the Duke also spoke about his struggle to show emotion at his mother’s death, telling Bradby: “Everyone thought and felt like they knew our mother and the two closest people she loved the most , could not show any emotions at that moment.

“Everyone knows where they were and what they were doing the night my mother died.”

Harry also says he cried once after his mother died – at her funeral.

“I cried once, at the funeral, and you know I go into detail about how strange it was and how indeed I felt guilty, and I think William felt the same as I walked around outside Kensington Palace am.”
