Unpublished works by Jean Paul Riopelle in the Montmagny library

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, the Montmagny Library is showing an exhibition of around twenty works by Jean Paul Riopelle.

This exhibition, presented from June 16th to September 17th, will feature around twenty works, some of which have never been publicly shown. They come from Huguette Vachon, the wife of his last 16 years and friends from Riopelle.

The exhibited works were created between 1958 and 1990. You will find oil, acrylic, mixed media, pastels, engravings and a bronze. The centerpiece of this free exhibit is two meters high and three meters long.

We also find photos of Riopelle at work with his wife Huguette Vachon and a work, “Flowers for Jean Paul”, produced by the latter.

The white goose that fascinated the painter in the last years of his life on L’Isle-aux-Grues is one of the themes that will be the focus of this intimate exhibition.

“This exhibition is a declaration of love to Jean Paul. Something intimate and precious, because the loans from these friends remind us of a moment we shared with him. Let’s celebrate Riopelle! Let us join the great chorus of tributes to make this 100th anniversary of our greatest painter a song of echo and love that will resonate for generations to come,” declared Huguette Vachon, companion of Riopelle and curator of this exhibition, in a press release.

On June 15th there will be a fundraising opening with Huguette Vachon.
