Shock for this family of vacationers who could not find access to the rented accommodation.
Like millions of summer vacationers, a Spanish couple had booked accommodation for their vacation in Malta on the Airbnb platform. A very classic story so far.
But when they arrived on the island, nothing went as planned. At first, the couple from the Canary Islands thought it was a scam because they couldn’t reach the owner to collect the keys. A very surprising situation for these tenants, who had developed a lively exchange with her over many months while preparing their vacation in the middle of the Mediterranean.
While the Maltese woman remained silent for a few days, the couple tried to go straight to the rental apartment. But here too the calls echoed desperately into nothingness.
Wrong hope
With no alternative solution, the couple then rented a room in a hotel while conducting a neighborhood survey to find the trail of who would rent them an apartment during their vacation. Eventually they managed to find out the address of the owner, who lived nearby. However, the latter was not used to leaving her home and her absence had not been particularly noticed by her neighbors.
However, a neighbor had seen an ambulance taking an elderly woman to the hospital a few days earlier.
At that time hope was reborn, but at the hospital the Spanish tourists learned that the hospitalization had already been ten days ago and that the lady had been sent home a few days later.
At the couple’s insistence, the neighborhood then called the police, who forced their way into the woman’s house. She was then found dead in her apartment.
Much to the dismay of the family, who had developed a close bond with their landlady. According to Cadena Ser, the Airbnb platform offered vacationers a refund but no alternative accommodation solution. It was a local real estate agency that found them another apartment. A small miracle in this busy summer time.
