corporate announcement

“The company has issued a correction to the previous announcement.”

On March 17, 2023, this press release was updated to state that Aldi sold Simply Nature frozen organic strawberries.

Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham, Oregon reminiscent of frozen organic strawberries sold to Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood, PCC Community Markets and frozen organic tropical mixes sold to Trader Joe’s due to an outbreak of hepatitis A disease.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that results from exposure to the hepatitis A virus, including through food. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. In rare cases, particularly in consumers with a serious pre-existing condition or a compromised immune system, hepatitis A infection can lead to liver failure.

The illness occurs within 15 to 50 days after exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver function tests, dark urine, and pale stools. Hepatitis A vaccination can prevent disease if given within two weeks of exposure to contaminated food. People who have consumed potentially affected products should contact their doctor or local health department to determine if vaccination is appropriate, and consumers with hepatitis A symptoms should contact their doctor or local health department immediately.
