In the United States, a 20-year-old woman from California fatally hit a man with her car because she thought he was killing a cat. The victim died. The young woman faces a life sentence.
The facts happened on Sunday September 25th in the United States. Hannah Star Esser, 20, thought she saw a man in his 50s run over a cat while driving near Oak Knoll Park in Cypress, California. Faced with this, the young woman decided to get out of her car and equip herself with her phone to film the scene and challenge the man.
According to the American newspaper Los Angeles Times, the situation quickly deteriorated and the tone between Hannah Star Esser and the Fifties quickly rose. At that time, the young woman got back into her car, made a U-turn and then accelerated towards the man.
Between 25 years in prison and life imprisonment
The man was hit, thrown onto the hood and windshield and died before help and the police arrived.
Hannah Star Esser was charged by the Orange County Attorney’s Office in the murder of the 50-year-old on Tuesday, September 27, and was sent to prison on $1 million bail. She will appear in court on October 13 and faces between 25 years in prison and life imprisonment.
In a statement, the Orange County District Attorney said that “this action demonstrated a complete disregard for human life…the law.”
The victim’s family, for their part, set up an online kitty for funeral expenses. “We are saddened by the loss of Victor, a beloved father of five, cherished son, brother, friend and cousin. This senseless act of violence stole a bright light from the world that will never be forgotten,” the family said in a statement.
The victim’s family has so far raised over $16,000 for the 50-year-old’s funeral
