US and China resume military dialogue

After a break of more than a year, the US and China have resumed their high-level military dialogue. US Chief of Staff Charles Q. Brown spoke by video today with Chinese General Liu Zhenli, a US military spokesman said.

Brown addressed the importance of cooperation between the armies of both countries in order to “avoid errors of judgment and maintain open and direct lines of communication.”

The conversation also covered “a range of global and regional security issues,” the US Army spokesman said, without providing further details. The Taiwan issue, among other things, is causing tension in relations between the two countries.

China suspended high-level military dialogue with the US last year, angered by then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to self-ruled and democratic Taiwan.
