The USA and Europe are trying to prevent the conflict in the Middle East from escalating
US and European officials are on a diplomatic offensive in the Middle East to prevent the conflict in the Gaza Strip from spilling over into the region.
The American Secretary of State is visiting the region for the fourth time since the war began in October. Antony Blinken and the head of Turkish diplomacy spoke this Saturday (6) about the war, the crisis, the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Sweden's accession to NATO.
EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell was in Beirut and said everything necessary must be done to prevent Lebanon from becoming embroiled in a regional conflict.
This Saturday, clashes on the border between Lebanon and Israel intensified. The Lebanese group Hezbollah, a Hamas ally, fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel. Hezbollah said it was in response to the attack that killed a Hamas commander in Beirut earlier this week. The Israeli army responded with bomb attacks on Hezbollah positions.
The Israeli army also continued its attacks against the Hamas group in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defense Forces reported that a bomb attack in Gaza this Saturday killed one of Hamas' leaders. Ismail Shiraj is said to have commanded the Kibbutz Beeri massacre in which 130 people were murdered.
