This Monday (22), the United States and the United Kingdom carried out new attacks against Houthi targets in Yemen, two US defense officials reported to CNN. This is the eighth operation conducted by allies on rebel infrastructure in just over ten days.
Areas affected by attacks
According to Nasr AlDin Amer, head of the Houthirun Saba news agency, the attacks targeted several locations. Yemen's capital Sanaa was hit, as were the cities of Taiz, AlBayda and Hajjah.
Talks between the USA and Great Britain
President Joe Biden spoke earlier Monday with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about a range of issues, including security in the Red Sea, the White House said.
Operation Poseidon Archer
CNN previously reported that the US called the operation to target Houthi assets in Yemen “Operation Poseidon Archer,” suggesting a more organized and potentially longterm approach. Since January 11, the United States has struck Houthi targets in Yemen eight times, with most attacks being unilateral.
Houthis claim to have attacked an American ship
The Houthis claimed Monday that they had attacked a U.S. cargo ship, the M/V Ocean Jazz. On the other hand, a US defense official told CNN that the claim was not true. “Iranbacked Houthi terrorists' report of an alleged successful attack on the M/V Ocean Jazz is egregiously false,” U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said in a statement.
The US and UK remain firmly opposed to the Houthis' actions and aim to neutralize the threat they pose to the stability of the region and the safe movement of goods and people.
