US announces new $2.1 billion military aid to Ukraine’s antiaircraft defenses

The package includes drones, artillery shells and ammunition for laserguided missile systems

The United States on Friday announced a new $2.1 billion military aid package to Ukraine. At the current exchange rate of the dollar, the value in Brazilian currency would be approximately R$10.2 billion. The measure includes ammunition for Patriot antiaircraft systems, artillery shells, drones and ammunition for laserguided missile systems.

The delivery of the new air defense systems and ammunition demonstrates “the unwavering support of the United States to Ukraine” in the fight against the Russian invasion, the Pentagon said in a statement.

In April 2023, the US government had already sent another BRL 13.2 billion package for Ukraine’s war against the invading Russian forces. The $2.6 billion was distributed among ammunition for HIMARS precision missile systems, artillery shells and small arms.

The package also included ammunition for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, as well as ammunition and antitank missiles for the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, which Washington previously promised Kiev.

Also included in this batch was 120mm tank ammunition — the type the US Abrams fired, 31 of the tanks Washington had promised Ukraine.
