“They are doing what no other political party in our country’s history has done: they are literally taking the economy hostage by threatening to default on our debts,” the US President threw during a trip to Valhalla north of New before York.
“We shouldn’t even be talking about it,” said the 80-year-old Democrat, a second-term candidate who had an inconclusive meeting with opposition leaders on Wednesday.
Joe Biden, speaking in a Republican constituency, also renewed his attacks on his duetist: Conservative House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The conservative “only got his job because he submitted to the “extreme” elements of his party,” staunch supporters of former President Donald Trump assured Joe Biden.
The President and Speaker of the House of Representatives are scheduled to meet again on Friday.
Joe Biden must convince Republican lawmakers to vote to raise the federal debt ceiling in the United States.
The opposition refuses to do so unless the White House promises budget cuts in return.
Without a vote from Congress this summer, the United States could be unable to pay its bills, pay salaries and pensions, and meet its financial deadlines, which would have been unprecedented.
According to the White House, an American default would have catastrophic consequences for employment and growth in the country and would destabilize global finance.
