Missouri (USA) Governor Mike Parson rejected the US state’s latest plea for clemency carried outin the night of this Tuesday (3/2), the first trans convict in US historyexplained the Washington Post.
Amber McLaughlin, 49, was sentenced to death in 2006 stabbed an exgirlfriend after a campaign of persecution against the victim three years earlier. The body was found on the banks of the Mississippi in St. Ludwig.
The convict was executed by lethal injection.
Before the execution, Amber spoke quietly with a spiritual advisor at her side as the lethal dose of pentobarbital was injected. McLaughlin took a few deep breaths and then closed his eyes. A few minutes later she was pronounced dead.
“I’m sorry for what I did”the trans woman said in a final written statement. “I am a loving and caring person”he added.
The plea for clemency quotes the traumatic childhood and the mental health problems from Amber, which the jury had never heard in court for almost two decades. An adoptive mother rubbed feces on her and her adoptive father’s faces as a child used a stun gun on heraccording to the document, which also cited major depression that led to multiple suicide attempts, both as a child and as an adult.

Although the petition also mentioned gender dysphoria, his sexual identity is “not the focus” of the plea for clemencysaid Amber’s attorney Larry Komp prior to the Missouri governor’s denial.
