US fighter jet crashes in South Korea

A fighter jet crashed near a US military base in South Korea after routine training, according to the United States Air Force.

The jet, assigned to the Eighth Combat Wing, reportedly crashed at around 9:45 a.m. local time in an agricultural area near Osan Air Base, the U.S. Air Force Korea South unit reported via press release, according to CNN.

The pilot managed to safely eject from the mobile to be transported to the nearest medical center.

No civilians were injured in this incident.

Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Kim Dong-yeon tweeted that the local fire department was dispatched to put out a fire nearby.

An investigation to clarify the causes of the crash is underway. So far, everything indicates that the pilot took part in routine training.

Osan Air Base in South Korea is the closest US base to North Korea. It is about 40 miles from the border that separates the two countries.
