A US military aircraft with a crew of four that took part in NATO maneuvers in northern Norway yesterday, Friday March 18, has been declared missing. An American military aircraft, US Osprey, was reported missing at 18:26 south of Bod, Norwegian rescue services said, stating that weather conditions in the area were very poor. Four people were on board the aircraft for a training mission as part of the Cold Response exercise, which involves 200 aircraft and about 50 ships.

The US military has confirmed that an accident involving a Marine Corps V-22 Osprey occurred during training in Norway as part of Exercise Cold Response 22. The cause of the accident is under investigation. More details will be shared as they become available, spokesman Jim Stenger pointed out. Exercise Cold Response 2022 aims to test Norway’s ability to receive external reinforcements in the event of aggression by a third country, in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which obliges its members to come to the aid of one of them.
