His wife, US First Lady Jill Biden, had already made it clear that her husband would run again in 2024. In an interview with the AP news agency during her trip to Africa in Nairobi, she said there was “virtually” nothing left do other than set the time and place for the announcement. “He says he’s not done yet. He says he hasn’t finished what he started,” his wife said.
Jill Biden is considered a key figure in her husband’s plans. “Because I’m his wife,” she said, laughing. Asked whether she had a decisive vote in deliberations on a possible new candidacy, she declined. “Of course he will listen to me because we are a couple,” she said, but then assured: “He makes his own decisions, believe me.”
Joe Biden himself was asked about his wife’s statements in an interview with ABC News. He expressed his admiration for the first lady. “Look, I meant what I said: I have other things to do before I go on a real campaign,” said the president.
