US promises more economic aid and weapons

The US government has promised Ukraine an additional $500 million in economic aid and up to $800 million in weapons and ammunition. The announcement was made today by US President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington. US economic support to Ukraine has totaled $1 billion in the past two months.

Among other things, the money should help stabilize the Ukrainian economy and support cities that were devastated by the Russian attack, Biden said.

Dozens of howitzers and tactical drones

Every American can be proud that US generosity helps Ukraine fight Russian aggression, Biden said in Washington. He announced that the new package will include dozens of howitzers and tactical drones, among others.

The US government announced an $800 million military aid package last week. The US has pledged or delivered more than $3.3 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine since Russia’s war of aggression began in late February.

In light of the dreaded Russian major offensive in the Donbas, Biden spoke of a “critical time window” in which the “course for the next phase of this war” would be set. Biden also said he met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal this morning.
