US retaliates after three American service members injured in Kataib Hezbollah attack in Iraq – Fox News

Three U.S. soldiers were injured in Iraq on Christmas Day when Kataib Hezbollah terrorists attacked Erbil Air Base, according to Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin.

Austin announced late Monday night that American forces “conducted necessary and proportionate strikes on three facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups in Iraq.”

“These precision strikes are in response to a series of attacks by Iran-backed militias on U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria, including an attack by the Iran-affiliated Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups today on Erbil Air Base, and are intended to disrupt and degrade “The capabilities of Iran-aligned militia groups are directly responsible,” Austin said in a press release.

“Today’s attack resulted in three U.S. personnel being injured, with one soldier in critical condition,” the statement continued. “My prayers are with the brave Americans who were injured.”
