US says Wagner Group offered air defense to ‘Hezbollah or Iran’ G1

The US is again attacking a military position in Syria used by Iran

The United States government announced this Tuesday (21) that the Russian mercenary group Wagner is preparing to reinforce the air defense of the Lebanese proIranian Hezbollah movement or the Iranian government itself, two opponents of the United States.

John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council, said Wagner had to provide material and men to Hezbollah or Iran and that he was doing so at the direction of the Russian government.

He also said that Iran “is now considering providing Russia with ballistic missiles for use against Ukraine in return for this support.” In other words, it would be a kind of exchange of military aid between Iran and Russia.

The Wall Street Journal published a report earlier this month that the Wagner Group was preparing to deliver the PantsirS1, a Russian selfpropelled artillery and antiaircraft missile system called the SA22. The newspaper claims the information came from U.S. government officials who did not want to be identified.

Kirby said the US was prepared to impose sanctions on “Russian individuals or entities” that might make these destabilizing transfers. Russia and Iran are already targets of international trade sanctions. The two strengthened their relationships in various sectors.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu paid an official visit to Iran in September, which was described as an “important step” for military cooperation between the allies.
