US Secretary of State Meets Chinese President in Beijing to ‘Stabilize’ Ties Between Two Countries

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has completed a two-day trip to China. Blinken, who became the first foreign minister to visit China since 2018, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday, where both sides expressed their desire to stabilize ties to ease rising tensions between the two world powers. Blinken also met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who urged states to stop exaggerating the alleged threat posed by China. These were the words of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

President Xi Jinping: “Relations between states should always be based on mutual respect and sincerity. I hope that your visit, Minister, will contribute positively to the stabilization of US-China relations.”

After the meetings concluded, Blinken spoke to the press in Beijing.

Foreign Minister Antony Blinken: “At every meeting I have emphasized direct contact and continuous communication between the highest levels [de ambos países] This is the best way to be responsible about our differences and to ensure that competition does not escalate into conflict. I heard the same thing from my Chinese colleagues. We both agree that there is a need to stabilize our relationship.”
