US Secretary of State Meets with Mexican President to Discuss Migration Crisis G1

Thousands of people cross Mexico to enter the USA

Thousands of people walk through Mexico towards the USA. They left the southern town of Tapachula, near the border with Guatemala, on Christmas Eve.

They are almost 10,000 men, women and children from Latin American countries: Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba, Honduras, El Salvador.

The caravan leaders carry banners that read: “Exit from poverty.”

Marvin, from Honduras, said he wants a better quality of life in the United States.

“The situation in our country is deteriorating. We want to work, we are not criminals.”

The group still has around 1,500 kilometers left to the US border.

Due to the increase in the number of illegal border crossing attempts in recent weeks, the The state of Texas temporarily stopped train crossings in El Paso and Eagle Pass.

Arizona has closed the port of entry in Lukeville.

In December the US authorities arrested more than 10,000 people every day attempt to enter the country illegally.

This year alone there have been such more than 2 million illegal border crossings.

Looking for solutions to curb what the United States calls “unprecedented irregular migration,” President Joe Biden sent two representatives to Mexico.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas met this Wednesday (27) with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
