A teenager allegedly fatally shot a 60-year-old man on a bus in Denver, Colorado last week because he was blocking the aisle with his leg.
The incident occurred just before 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 27 as the bus approached the corner of South Federal Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue.
The victim, Richard Sanchez, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Another person suffered minor injuries in the shooting but did not require hospital treatment, Denver police said in a statement.
“It appears there was a verbal exchange between the suspect and the victim about the victim's leg blocking the bus aisle, and the suspect then shot the victim,” said police, who arrested the suspect, a 13-year-old teenager , five days after the incident.
The family of Mr. Sanchez, a 60-year-old grandfather, was contacted by Fox 31 and said they became aware of the situation several days later when his disappearance was reported.
“I don’t understand how someone could do something like this to such an honest person. It was difficult because we didn't know where he was and he was in the hospital the whole time and they didn't contact us. When he took his last breath, there was no one with him,” said his grandson Joseph Chavez.
