A man armed with a semi-automatic rifle caused death on Wednesday evening in Lewinston, a small town in Maine in the northeastern United States. According to NBC News and Fox News, there are at least 22 dead and between 50 and 60 injured, a figure Lewinston City Councilman Robert McCarthy confirmed on CNN. It is unclear how many people were injured by bullets. The fugitive shooter is being actively sought.

Police in Lewiston, a city of 37,000, appealed for witnesses and released three photos of the suspect, a white man armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a scope, wearing blue cargo pants and a brown sweatshirt, who looked to be in his 30s and be 40 years old.

Specifically, he opened fire at a bowling alley, a bar-restaurant and a Walmart distribution center. Lewiston City Hall urged residents to stay safe at home. The White House said Joe Biden had been briefed and was monitoring the situation as it developed. The Boston FBI in particular offered its support.
