First taser, then cardiac arrest
Anderson went into cardiac arrest after being shot with a police taser. Officials said they were at the scene of a car accident in Venice, Los Angeles, where they found Anderson visibly agitated. According to NBC reports, police repeatedly tried to calm the man down before immobilizing him. During the scuffle, an officer used a stun gun on him. Eventually, officers handcuffed his hands and feet, and paramedics took the man to a local hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest.
The episode was filmed from the bodycams worn by the officers who stopped Anderson and then aired. “He was clearly out of his mind – said Carl Douglas, attorney for the Anderson family, still reports to NBC – but he was treated with such violence.” The city police department said its forensic toxicology unit ran him for a toxicology exam on Jan. 5 and found that Anderson had metabolites of cocaine and cannabinoids in his system.
