USA: Iranian drone hits tanker in Indian Ocean

The drone that damaged a ship in the Indian Ocean yesterday was fired by Iran, according to the US. The chemical vessel “Chem Pluto” was hit by an “attack drone fired by Iran”, reported the US Department of Defense in Washington. A fire caused by the drone was extinguished and there were no injuries.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned “the United States and its allies” to close the Mediterranean and other waterways “if crimes in the Gaza Strip continued.”

According to the Pentagon, the chemical ship “Chem Pluto” sails under the Liberian flag, is owned by a Japanese company and operated by a Dutch company.

The British Maritime Safety Agency (UKMTO) and security firm Ambrey had previously reported that the ship had been attacked about 370 kilometers off the coast of India. The ship, whose name has not previously been released by the UKMTO or Ambrey, is said to be on its way from Saudi Arabia to India.
